Package Design & First Impressions

I can't tell you how many times I buy a product simply because of the packaging & design. It is so appealing that I just have to buy it, no matter what it may be. I know for a fact I'm not the only person who does this, which is why the design and identity on a product is so important for marketing. Consumers aren't buying the product itself, they're also buying the brand and image of the product, and the meaning that backs it up.

Packaging can make consumers feel as if they are a part of the community and a part of the brand, they feel a sense of ownership and pride behind the brand. However, first impressions are key. If it's a new product nobody is familiar with, it's the perfect opportunity to make a first impression on consumers. It could be something that stands out but is pleasing to the eye. Nobody wants to be blinded or feel overwhelmed when looking at a your product on the shelf.

Sometimes when trying to describe a product to someone, people explain what it looks like. Nobody wants consumers to describe their packaging on negative terms. Figure out what's trending? What's working for other products? What's not working? These are all important questions to ask yourself when creating a label for your product. There is so much more to a package design and brand identity than something that's nice to look at. Understand the meaning behind the brand, what's the story? Designing a label for a product is your opportunity to make a great first impression on your target audience.
